Privacy Policy

TypeMate AI (“TypeMate”, “we”, “us”) is an Android keyboard and companion app made by Nimions. A keyboard sees everything you type, so this policy is written to be read. It explains what the app does with your text, your voice, your account and your device, and it is deliberately specific: where we say “only”, we mean only.

The short version

• The keyboard does not record, store or transmit your keystrokes.
• Text leaves your phone only when you tap an AI action, and only the text you chose to act on is sent — to Google’s Gemini API, which generates the result.
• Password fields are excluded from AI actions automatically.
• You can use everything without an account. If you sign in, we sync your saved prompts, settings and a record of which actions you ran, never the text itself.
• We show a rewarded ad only when you choose to watch one, and never inside the keyboard.

1. The keyboard

TypeMate is an Android input method. Android sends it the characters you type so it can put them into the field you are using; that is how every keyboard works. TypeMate does not log, cache, analyse or transmit those keystrokes. Nothing you type is kept when you close the keyboard.

The keyboard reads the contents of a text field only at the moment you tap an AI action (for example Rewrite, Reply, Fix grammar or Translate). If you have selected text, it reads the selection; otherwise it reads the current field. The preview appears above the keys and nothing in the field changes until you tap Insert.

Fields that Android marks as passwords (including visible passwords, web passwords and numeric PINs) are never read: the AI buttons are disabled in them.

2. AI actions and where your text goes

When you run an AI action, the text you acted on, together with the action, tone, length and language you chose, is sent over an encrypted connection to the Google Gemini API and the generated text is returned. We do not run our own servers in this path. Google’s handling of API requests is described in the Gemini API terms. We do not use your text to train models, and we do not sell it.

AI-generated text can be wrong. Review it before you insert or send it, especially anything factual, legal, medical or financial.

Do not use AI actions on text you are not allowed to share with a third-party service, such as confidential work documents, other people’s personal data, card numbers or credentials.

3. Voice

Dictation uses your phone’s speech recognition. In the default “Auto” mode, audio is processed by Google’s speech service when you are online and by your phone’s on-device recognizer when you are offline; you can force either in Settings. TypeMate never records or stores audio itself and never receives audio: the recognizer returns text to the app, and the text is treated exactly like typed text. Dictation needs the microphone permission, which Android asks for the first time you use it.

4. Account and sync

You do not need an account. If you continue as a guest, Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous identifier so your settings can sync; it is not linked to your name or email. If you sign in with Google or with an email address and password, Firebase stores that email (and, for Google, your name and profile photo URL) to identify your account.

For signed-in users, including guests, the app mirrors the following to Cloud Firestore so it can be restored on another device: your saved prompts, your preferences (tone, language, speech mode, notification and history settings), a credit ledger (how many actions you have used this month and how many were earned from ads), whether you have Pro, your platform and app version, and a record of your recent AI actions containing the action name, tone, language and time. That record never contains the text you acted on or the text that was generated. Those stay on your phone.

Firestore security rules restrict each account to its own data. Nimions staff can read this data to run and support the service.

5. History on your phone

The app keeps your recent results (input and output) on the device so you can copy or reuse them. You can turn saving off in Privacy settings, delete single entries, or delete everything at once. Uninstalling the app removes it.

6. Notifications

If you allow notifications, the app registers a Firebase Cloud Messaging token and stores it with your account so we can send you product updates and credit reminders. Turn notifications off in the app or in Android settings at any time; the token is removed the next time the app runs.

7. Analytics and crash reports

We use Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used (for example that a Rewrite ran, or that a screen was opened) and Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports. These include device model, OS version, app version, a per-installation identifier and, for crashes, a stack trace. They never include the text you type or generate.

8. Ads

On the free plan you may choose to watch a rewarded video ad to earn 5 extra AI actions. Ads are served by Google AdMob, appear only in the TypeMate app after you tap “Watch ad”, and never inside the keyboard. AdMob may use your device’s advertising ID. We request non-personalised ads, and where the law requires consent (for example in the EEA and UK) the app shows Google’s consent form first. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. Pro removes ads entirely.

9. Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and processed by Google Play. We never see your payment details. Google shares with us an order identifier and purchase state so the app can unlock Pro and restore it on reinstall.

10. Android permissions

• Microphone — dictation, only while you are using it.
• Internet and network state — AI actions, sign-in, sync and choosing online or on-device speech.
• Notifications — optional product updates.
• Bind input method — required by Android for any keyboard app.

TypeMate does not request access to contacts, location, files, the camera, SMS or the call log, and does not use accessibility services.

11. Service providers

Google LLC provides Gemini (AI generation), speech recognition, Firebase (authentication, Firestore, Cloud Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics), AdMob and Google Play Billing. Each processes data under its own privacy terms. We do not share your data with anyone else and we do not sell it.

12. Retention and deletion

Local history stays until you delete it or uninstall. Synced data stays while your account exists. To delete your account and everything synced with it, email hello@nimions.com from the address you signed in with, or use the deletion request form linked in the footer; we complete deletions within 30 days. Analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase for up to 14 months and then deleted automatically.

13. Children

TypeMate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Security

All network traffic uses TLS. Sync data is protected by Firebase security rules that limit access to the owning account. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so please keep your account credentials private.

15. Languages and regions

The app supports 8 languages. Wherever you are, the same rules above apply. If you are in the EEA, UK or another region with data-protection rights, you can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data by contacting us; we will respond within the period the law requires.

16. Changes

If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the date at the top, and for material changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect.
